Sierras of Tejeda, Almijara and Almara Natural Park

Designated a natural park in 1999, this large and rugged mountainous region of 40,663ha stretches across the provincial border of Granada and Malaga. Its western part in Malaga province is known as the Axarquia. There are many caves, the most famous being those at Nerja.

Access

The park is easily accessible from the Malaga side of the sierras, via the villages of Alcaucín, Canillos de Aceituno, Sedella, Salares, Canillas de Albaida, Cómpeta and Frigiliana. North of Alcaucín is a minor, winding road that leads to a picnic area called El Alcázar, which is located by a stream of the same name and is inside the park. East of Canillos de Aceituno, towards Los Olivos on the MA126 road, is the picnic area La Rahige. East of Canillas de Albaida is the Fábrica de la Luz picnic area. (Source Jo williams)

Transport

We anticipate that most people will hire a car for their holiday but a local air-conditioned coach runs from the village of Competa to the coast and Malaga three times a day. The coaches are comfortable and air conditioned and CHEAP. The bus stop is at the entrance to the village, opposite Bar Marcos (Competa) or Canillas De Albaida Bus Station (behind the school)

Buses (no.19) run every 15 minutes from Malaga Airport to the Central Bus Depot in Malaga where the above bus can be picked up.

Alternatively, if you would like a relaxing "get away from it all holiday", we can arrange for you to be collected from the airport. Local taxis are also available to and from the local villages.

Horse Riding - Los Olivillos - situated in remote area of the Parque Natural, nestling in the mountains midway between two historic white washed villages.
